Hijri Date Converter and Islamic Calendar

Compare Gregorian civil dates with dates in the Islamic Hijri calendar. The Hijri calendar is lunar, so months move through the seasons rather than staying aligned with the solar year.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How do I use the hijri date converter?

Choose a Gregorian or Hijri date and use the converter to see its corresponding date in the other calendar. Browse the month calendar to place a date in context. Check the selected calculation system before relying on the result.

Use the tool as described above, then check the result against its limitations before using it elsewhere. Copy, export and print actions differ by tool. Do not assume a browser-saved value is a secure backup.

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

When is this tool useful?

The converter can help organize personal calendars, look up historical dates and discuss Ramadan, Eid or other Islamic occasions across different civil calendars.

Choose inputs that describe the actual task. If you are comparing results over time, keep the method, units and settings consistent.

A closer look at Hijri Date Converter

How does the Islamic calendar differ from the Gregorian calendar?

The Hijri calendar has twelve lunar months. Its year is usually about 354 or 355 days, rather than the 365 or 366 days of the Gregorian solar calendar. Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul Hijjah and other months move through the solar seasons. A conversion is therefore a calendar-system calculation, not merely a fixed number of days to add or subtract.

What does this converter actually calculate?

The current tool formats selected Gregorian dates through the browser’s Umm al-Qura Islamic calendar support. It offers a plus or minus one-day adjustment to compare nearby local calendar results. The month overview shows a Gregorian month with Hijri labels; it is not yet a standalone month-by-month Hijri calendar controlled by Hijri month selection.

Why might the displayed date differ from a mosque announcement?

Different regions use astronomical calculations, official calendars or local moon-sighting reports. As a result, the observed start of Ramadan or Eid can differ from a calculated date. For religious observances, follow the authority relevant to your community instead of treating an automatically converted date as an official announcement.

Example

Use the converter when planning an event near Ramadan to get an approximate corresponding date, then verify the final date against a trusted regional Islamic calendar and local announcement. Record which calendar convention was used so that different people understand the discrepancy.

ACCURACY & PRIVACY

Important details and limitations

Hijri conversions are not universal forecasts of moon sightings. Local observations and calendar conventions may differ by a day or more. Confirm religious dates with local authorities.

Some ToolsRoom utilities keep progress in local browser storage. That is convenient for repeat visits on the same device, but it is not an online account or a backup. Clearing browser data, changing devices or using private browsing can remove saved information. Export important results when supported.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about Hijri Date Converter

Why do two Hijri calendars show different dates?

They may use different lunar calculation or local moon-sighting rules.

Does this confirm the beginning of Ramadan?

No. Check the recognized local announcement for religious observance.

Is Umm al-Qura the only Hijri calendar?

No. Tabular, astronomical and moon-sighting methods differ, and communities may adopt different conventions.

Why is a date one day different?

Official start-of-month rules and moon sightings can differ. The tool provides a regional adjustment for comparison, not authoritative confirmation.

Can it show an entire Hijri month?

The present monthly display is organized by Gregorian month with Hijri day labels. A dedicated Hijri-month view would be a separate enhancement.
